FREDERICK JONES
-President SWA
Artist Statement:
Having resided, one time or another, in the Mid-south, Rocky Mountains, California and the Northwest and I have been able to include the unique flavor of each of these geographical areas into my artwork. However, the South and Northwest have always provided the richest trove of subject matter and remain the inspiration for much of my work. While working with Portland artist and teacher Emerson Christoff I developed my current landscape style which is influenced by such pre-impressionist painters as George Inness, Asher Durand, and Jean Baptiste-Corot. My figure and portrait style was developed while living in Clarksdale Mississippi and developed under the tutelage of a student of Marshall Bouldin III. I grew up in a family filled with artists and absorbed an interest in art from both family and school. I moved from acrylics to oil while in high school and continued with my art through college and, sporadically, during my working years. It wasn’t until retirement that I was able to pick up painting again. By my own definition I am a recreational artist. I have shown at the Trails End Gallery in Gearhart Oregon, the Lakewood Center, Lake Oswego Oregon, the Chehalis Cultural Center, Newberg, Oregon (Lavender Festival), The Cave Gallery in Vancouver Washington, the Camas Gallery in Camas Washington, the Fort Vancouver Regional Library, Vancouver Washington, and at the summer gatherings in front of Blooms Flowers on First Street in Lake Oswego, Oregon. I currently show at The Cannon Beach Art Gallery, Cannon Beach Oregon, and the spring and fall shows for the Society of Washington Artist, Vancouver Washington. I am currently the president of the Society of Washington Artists and Vice President of Columbia Arts Network, Vancouver, Washington. I am a member of Northwest Oil Painters Guild and member of the steering committee representing Columbia Arts Network for the Vancouver Music and Arts Festival.
